Ivan Fedotov Nominated for Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy
The Philadelphia Flyers’ goaltender, Ivan Fedotov, has been nominated for the 2024-25 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy by the Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA). This prestigious award is given annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies qualities such as perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the game.
Fedotov, 28, joined the Flyers at the tail end of the 2023-24 season, nearly a decade after being drafted by the team in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Draft. Despite his late arrival in the league, the 6-foot-7, 214-pound goaltender has shown considerable resilience, starting 23 games this season and posting a 6-13-3 record while often enduring extended periods without playtime.
Flyers General Manager Daniel Briere praised Fedotov’s resilience and commitment, stating that his daily efforts in practice and his performances when called upon have made a significant impact on the team. Fedotov himself expressed surprise at the nomination, reflecting on his long journey to the NHL and the fulfillment of his childhood dream to play in the league.
Before joining the Flyers, Fedotov spent seven seasons playing in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Vysshaya Hockey League (VHL), where he accumulated an impressive 61-55-8 record in 133 KHL games. His standout 2021-22 season saw him earning KHL Best Goaltender honors and a spot on the KHL First All-Star Team. Additionally, he played for the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), helping secure a silver medal in the 2022 Winter Olympics.
The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, first introduced in 1968, honors the memory of Bill Masterton, a Minnesota North Stars player who epitomized perseverance and dedication to hockey. Fedotov’s nomination highlights his remarkable journey and serves as a testament to his commitment to the game.
