
Louisville has officially added Xavier transfer guard Ryan Conwell to its men’s basketball roster. Conwell announced his decision to join the Cardinals on April 1, and the program has now confirmed the signing. A four-star transfer ranked No. 17 overall and the No. 3 combo guard in the 247Sports transfer portal, Conwell is set to join the team in June as a senior.
Head coach Pat Kelsey praised Conwell’s character and leadership, calling him a complete player with a strong presence both on and off the court. Kelsey highlighted Conwell’s efficiency and ability to deliver in big moments, noting that his experience will add to an already mature roster.
During the 2024–25 season at Xavier, Conwell started all 34 games and averaged 16.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 45% from the field, 41.3% from three-point range, and 82.8% from the free-throw line. He was named to the All-Big East Third Team and ranked among the top ten in the conference in multiple shooting categories. Conwell scored in double figures in 28 games and had 12 performances of 20 or more points, including a career-high 38 points against Marquette in the Big East Tournament.
Before Xavier, Conwell played his sophomore season at Indiana State, where he started all 38 games and helped lead the Sycamores to the 2024 NIT Championship game. He averaged 16.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, with shooting splits of 48.2% from the field, 40.7% from three, and 85.5% from the line. He reached the 20-point mark in 12 games.
Conwell began his collegiate career at South Florida in 2022–23, appearing in all 32 games and starting 21. He posted averages of 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 18.5 minutes per game.
A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Conwell was named the 2022 Marion County Player of the Year after a standout senior season at Pike High School, where he averaged 22.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.0 steals per game. He also earned MIC All-Conference honors in both his junior and senior years and was selected as an Indiana All-Star.
