
Louisville Confirms Addition of Virginia Guard Isaac McKneely
Isaac McKneely, a transfer from the University of Virginia, has officially joined the University of Louisville men’s basketball program. The move, initially announced by McKneely on April 3, was confirmed by Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey.
Kelsey praised McKneely’s skill and impact, noting his scoring ability, basketball IQ, athleticism, passing, and competitive spirit. Kelsey also highlighted McKneely’s character, describing him as a selfless and faith-driven individual whose values align with the program’s culture.
During the 2023-24 season at Virginia, McKneely started all 32 games, averaging 14.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. He shot 43.9% from the field and 42.1% from three-point range, with 101 of his 152 made shots coming from beyond the arc. He led the ACC in three-point percentage and ranked second in three-pointers per game (3.2). He scored 20 or more points in eight games and reached double figures in 24 contests while averaging 34.6 minutes per game.
McKneely earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors and was named to both the NABC All-District East Second Team and the CSC Academic All-District Team.
A native of Poca, West Virginia, McKneely also started all 33 games in his sophomore season, posting averages of 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.6 steals. He shot 40.9% from the floor and 44.5% from three. Academically, he was recognized on the 2024 ACC Honor Roll and All-ACC Academic Team.
As a freshman, McKneely appeared in 33 games with one start, averaging 6.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists while shooting 42.3% from the field and 39.2% from three-point range. He was also named to the ACC Honor Roll and All-ACC Academic Team.
In high school, McKneely was a standout at Poca High School, earning West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year and the Bill Evans Award in both 2021 and 2022. He led his team to a state championship as a senior, averaging 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.0 steal, and 1.0 block per game.
