The New York Yankees’ starting rotation has faced significant struggles this season. Aside from Max Fried, who has posted a strong 2.61 ERA, the rest of the pitching staff has been inconsistent. Carlos Carrasco, once promising in spring training, has a troubling 7.71 ERA, while Carlos Rodón has a 5.19 ERA. Marcus Stroman’s ERA stands at 7.27, and Will Warren has posted a 6.00 ERA. This leaves the combined ERA (excluding Fried) at an alarming 6.04, a far cry from the level expected of a major league rotation.
However, there is a glimmer of hope. Clarke Schmidt, who had a solid 2.85 ERA last season, is nearing a return after a strong rehab outing in Double-A. If his final minor league start goes well, he could rejoin the rotation as soon as next week, offering much-needed relief for the struggling staff.
Additionally, Luis Gil is progressing well in his recovery, with plans to begin a throwing program soon. Manager Aaron Boone indicated that Gil could be on track to return in June, providing another boost to the rotation.
While the Yankees have faced rotation challenges this season, the potential return of Schmidt and Gil offers hope for improvement in the near future.
