The Syracuse men’s basketball team secured its second transfer commitment from a former Georgia Tech player on Sunday, as big man Ibrahim Souare decided to join the Orange for next season. Standing at 6-foot-9, Souare played in 30 games for Georgia Tech last season, averaging 2.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks. Although his offensive numbers were modest, he was a strong defensive presence for the Yellow Jackets, shooting 59.7% from the field, though his free throw percentage was low at 31.3%. Souare, who started 14 games, played both power forward and center. He had previously received offers from schools like Niagara and Oregon.
Souare is the fourth transfer acquisition for Syracuse this offseason, following Naithan George from Georgia Tech, UCLA’s William Kyle III, and Oregon State’s Nate Kingz. These new additions join returnees JJ Starling and Donnie Freeman. While Syracuse has done well in adding talent through the transfer portal, their biggest need remains a post player capable of providing an offensive threat beyond finishing near the basket. Freeman has played some center but is more naturally suited as a forward, and Kyle had limited playing time at UCLA.
With the Orange’s roster taking shape, Syracuse has strengthened key areas, including securing a starting point guard and adding shooting options. However, the team still has work to do to address their frontcourt, particularly in terms of offensive versatility. Souare’s defensive ability adds depth to their big-man rotation, but they will need more scoring options in the post to remain competitive in the ACC.
