The Ohio State basketball program has made strides to strengthen its roster this offseason. After another disappointing season, the team is aiming for better results next year, especially as they’ve missed the NCAA Tournament for three consecutive years. If this trend continues, there could be pressure on Jake Diebler, who was promoted after Chris Holtmann’s firing but still missed the Big Dance. Diebler is determined to prove himself by assembling a stronger squad.
So far, Ohio State has added two players from the transfer portal: a big man and a guard, though neither are expected to be immediate starters. On Tuesday, the Buckeyes secured a third transfer, hoping he will provide the team with a scoring boost.
Brandon Noel, a forward previously at Wright State, has committed to Ohio State. As an in-state transfer, Noel is familiar with the Buckeyes’ program. While at Wright State, he averaged 19 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, shooting 55% from the field and 35% from three-point range. Ohio State hopes he can contribute immediately and possibly even earn a starting role.
Noel’s addition comes after Ohio State’s previous transfer from Wright State, Tanner Holden, who didn’t make a significant impact. The Buckeyes are hopeful that Noel will offer more of a boost, as the team still needs improvement across the roster.
