Detroit Tigers assistant general manager Sam Menzin resigned last week amid an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct, according to sources. The Athletic reported that Menzin had sent unsolicited explicit photos to two former Tigers employees and one non-team member.
The Tigers conducted an internal investigation after becoming aware of the allegations and stated that Menzin resigned before any termination action could be taken. The organization emphasized that such behavior goes against their standards, and they are committed to maintaining a respectful and professional work environment.
The investigation included a human resources official contacting women who might have received inappropriate photos from Menzin. Menzin had been with the Tigers for over a decade, starting as an intern in 2012 and working his way up through various roles, including baseball operations coordinator and assistant GM in 2021. He briefly led the team’s baseball operations on an interim basis after GM Al Avila’s departure in 2022.
At the time of his resignation, Menzin had been working with the team during Spring Training and into the season. His resignation came unexpectedly, and the team did not disclose further details about the circumstances, confirming only that he had stepped down.
Menzin’s role involved overseeing player acquisitions, contract negotiations, and compliance with MLB rules. He also worked on improving the Tigers’ Lakeland facility. Despite his resignation, the team has made it clear that they are focused on maintaining a positive culture within the organization.
