Yankees Re-Sign Veteran Reliever Adam Ottavino, Option Brent Headrick
The New York Yankees have brought back right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino on a new major league deal, just days after designating him for assignment. To make room on the roster, the club optioned left-hander Brent Headrick to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Ottavino, 39, made two scoreless appearances for New York earlier this season before being DFA’d. The veteran spent the past three years with the Mets, posting a 4.34 ERA in 2024 primarily in low-leverage situations. Yankees manager Aaron Boone now adds another experienced arm to a bullpen that recently welcomed back closer Devin Williams from injury.
Headrick, 26, impressed during his brief stint with the big league club, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. However, his recent two-inning outing against Pittsburgh made him unavailable for the upcoming series in Detroit, prompting the move.
The Yankees begin a three-game set against the Tigers on Monday afternoon, with Ottavino expected to be available immediately. New York’s bullpen now features a mix of veteran presence and young arms as they look to maintain their early-season momentum.
