Josh Allen and the Bills’ Offense Remain Potent Without a True No. 1 Receiver
Despite losing Stefon Diggs in the offseason, the Buffalo Bills’ offense was one of the NFL’s best in 2024, averaging 30.9 points per game. Josh Allen, the reigning MVP, led the charge with improved decision-making, reducing his turnovers while still maintaining his dynamic playmaking ability. While some argue the team needs a star receiver to compete with Kansas City, the Bills’ current weapons may already be enough.
Khalil Shakir emerged as Allen’s top target last season, supported by Keon Coleman, Mack Hollins, and tight end Dalton Kincaid. Though the Bills fell short in the AFC Championship against the Chiefs, they were within three points late in the game—proof that they can contend even without a traditional No. 1 receiver. Free-agent addition Josh Palmer adds speed, while second-year jumps from Coleman and a healthy Kincaid could further elevate the offense.
The Bills also have reliable contributors like Dawson Knox and Curtis Samuel, who struggled early but could rebound in 2025. With Allen’s ability to elevate his supporting cast, Buffalo’s offense doesn’t necessarily need another elite pass-catcher to remain among the league’s best. While adding a star receiver would be a luxury, it may not be a necessity for this group to succeed.
The upcoming NFL draft presents an opportunity to bolster the roster, but the Bills’ front office might prioritize other needs over a high-profile receiver. Allen has proven he can produce with the current personnel, and further development from young players could make the passing attack even more dangerous.
Ultimately, Buffalo’s success hinges on Allen’s continued elite play rather than the addition of another top target. If the supporting cast takes another step forward, the Bills have all the firepower needed to make another deep playoff run—even without a marquee No. 1 wideout.
