Pistons Taking Cautious Approach With Jaden Ivey’s Injury Recovery
Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff stated the team won’t rush guard Jaden Ivey back from his broken fibula before the season ends. Ivey has been sidelined since January 1 but recently began light practice activities.
“We prioritize his safety above all,” Bickerstaff said. “Any return timeline will be determined by our medical staff and front office – we won’t force anything that could risk further injury.”
Before his injury, Ivey was having a breakout third season, averaging career highs of 17.6 points and 4.1 assists while shooting 41% from three-point range. The Pistons started 14-16 with him in the lineup but have maintained success (29-19) during his absence, clinching their first playoff berth since 2008.
With just four regular season games remaining, the earliest possible return would be Detroit’s April 11 home game against Milwaukee or the April 13 season finale. However, the team may opt to wait until the playoffs begin on April 19 to reintegrate the young guard.
The Pistons’ cautious approach reflects their long-term investment in Ivey’s development as they prepare for their first postseason appearance in 17 years.
