Former Coach Suggests How Browns Could Utilize Travis Hunter
As the Cleveland Browns prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft, they hold the crucial No. 2 overall pick. While the Browns may have hoped to select Cam Ward, all signs indicate that the Tennessee Titans will take him first. With Ward likely off the board, Cleveland now has several potential options for their pick.
While Abdul Carter and Shedeur Sanders were initially considered the top candidates, Travis Hunter has recently surged as a strong contender for the No. 2 spot. Hunter, known for his exceptional talents as both a wide receiver and cornerback, has captured attention as a potential game-changer.
Former NFL head coach Jay Gruden shared his approach for utilizing Hunter if he were with the Browns. Gruden suggested that during rookie OTAs, Hunter should focus primarily on offense. He recommended teaching Hunter the playbook and offensive formations thoroughly. Once training camp starts, Gruden would have Hunter work on both sides of the ball, using 1-on-1 drills to develop his skills as both an offensive and defensive player.
Given Gruden’s reputation for offensive expertise, it makes sense that he would prioritize Hunter’s development in understanding the offensive playbook. Learning the offensive side of the game would also give Hunter valuable insights into playing defense, a key benefit for a rare two-way talent like him.
