James Cook Signals Potential Exit from Bills Amid Contract Stalema
Buffalo Bills running back James Cook may be preparing to leave the team after contract extension talks stalled. Cook, who has expressed interest in a deal worth around $15 million per year, has reportedly put his Orchard Park home up for sale—a possible indication of his future plans.
Cook’s Buffalo Home Listed for Sale
According to WIVB-4 in Buffalo, Cook’s residence—purchased in 2022 by an LLC linked to his brother, former NFL running back Dalvin Cook—is now on the market. While the listing includes personal memorabilia like game balls and jerseys, it doesn’t necessarily mean an immediate move is imminent. However, the decision suggests Cook is considering life beyond Buffalo once his contract expires after the 2025 season.
Bills GM Downplays Extension Talks
General Manager Brandon Beane acknowledged Cook’s contributions but made it clear no new deal is in the works. Instead, Beane encouraged Cook to use the upcoming season to prove his value.
“Jimbo is a pro. I respect him and love him to death,”* Beane said. “If we’re not at a deal now, he can go out and show us—and the league—what he’s worth. We want him to succeed and hope he remains a Bill beyond this season.”
Cook, who led the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024, has recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons—a feat last achieved by LeSean McCoy in Buffalo. Despite his production, the Bills have a history of letting drafted running backs walk, including Zack Moss and Devin Singletary.
With no extension in sight, Cook’s future with the Bills remains uncertain as he enters a pivotal contract year.
