Ryan Conwell Joins Louisville Basketball with Championship Aspirations
Former Xavier guard Ryan Conwell has committed to Louisville, becoming the program’s second transfer portal addition this offseason. The Indianapolis native brings extensive experience, having played at South Florida, Indiana State, and Xavier during his collegiate career.
Conwell cited multiple factors in his decision, including Louisville’s proximity to family and head coach Pat Kelsey’s immediate outreach when he entered the portal. “The family environment stood out immediately,” Conwell said. “They showed genuine care for me and my family.”
The 6’4″ guard excelled in the Big East last season, averaging 16.5 points while shooting 41.4% from three-point range. His offensive skills align perfectly with Kelsey’s five-out system that emphasizes floor spacing and three-point shooting – similar to the style Conwell played at Indiana State.
Louisville’s dramatic turnaround under Kelsey impressed Conwell, who believes the roster has championship potential. The Cardinals improved from 12 combined wins in 2022-23 to 27 victories and an NCAA Tournament appearance last season.
Conwell joins a talented group featuring five-star freshman Mikel Brown Jr. and international prospect Sananda Fru. With his proven scoring ability and veteran leadership, Conwell aims to help Louisville build on last season’s success while preparing for professional opportunities.
