Cowboys Making Progress on Micah Parsons Contract Extension
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones provided an update on contract negotiations with star linebacker Micah Parsons during the NFL’s annual league meetings. While no deal has been finalized, Jones indicated discussions are progressing better than last year’s talks with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb at this same stage.
“Yes, I’d say that’s the case,” Jones said when asked if Parsons’ negotiations were further along than Lamb’s were last offseason. “We’ve had very good discussions and a real good meeting of the minds.”
The Cowboys typically take their time with major contract extensions, as evidenced by Lamb’s deal not being completed until late in training camp last year and quarterback Dak Prescott’s prolonged negotiations in previous seasons. However, the organization appears motivated to secure Parsons long-term.
Parsons remains under contract for 2025 through his fifth-year option, giving Dallas some flexibility in negotiations. The three-time Pro Bowler has established himself as one of the NFL’s most dominant defensive players since being drafted in 2021.
While no timeline exists for a potential agreement, the positive update suggests the Cowboys want to avoid letting Parsons’ situation linger deep into the offseason. His extension would likely reset the market for defensive players.
