Bills Hint at Potential Throwback Uniform Return
The Buffalo Bills organization has teased fans with the possibility of bringing back classic uniforms as the team prepares for its final season in the current stadium. Chief Operating Officer Pete Guelli revealed the team is considering uniform changes tied to both the stadium farewell and the upcoming new venue opening.
While no specific designs were confirmed, the comments have sparked speculation about a return to the team’s iconic 1987-2001 look. That uniform set – featuring red helmets, blue/white/red jerseys and white pants – became synonymous with the Bills’ four consecutive Super Bowl appearances in the early 1990s.
The NFL’s expanded uniform policy for 2025 allows teams to wear alternate or throwback jerseys up to four times per season, up from three in 2024. This rule change creates more opportunities for nostalgic uniform returns across the league.
Bills fans have long clamored for the red helmet design, which the team hasn’t used since switching to white helmets in 2011. The organization last wore AFL-era throwbacks in 2021.
With quarterback Josh Allen locked into a long-term deal and the team coming off another playoff season, a uniform revival could coincide with Buffalo’s latest championship pursuit. The potential change would connect the current roster to the franchise’s most successful era.
