Could the 49ers Finalize Brock Purdy’s Extension Before Offseason Workouts Begin?
The San Francisco 49ers still have one major task left this offseason: securing a long-term contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy.
Despite early discussions, there’s uncertainty about when a deal will be finalized, as the 49ers historically don’t rush extensions. Recent negotiations with key players—such as Brandon Aiyuk, Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, George Kittle, and Deebo Samuel—have often stretched deep into the offseason or even training camp.
Latest Updates on Purdy’s Contract Talks
General Manager John Lynch expressed optimism about reaching an agreement but didn’t commit to a timeline.
*“I think we’re going to get the deal done, ”Lynch said at the NFL’s annual meetings. “Brock wants to be with us, and we want him here. When both sides are motivated, deals usually happen.”
While Lynch didn’t rule out a deal before offseason workouts begin, he acknowledged the unpredictable nature of negotiations.
“I don’t know if it’ll happen this offseason, but hopefully soon. There’s motivation on both sides, which is a good sign.”
Given Purdy’s importance, the 49ers would benefit from finalizing his contract early, allowing him to work with a healthier roster after last season’s inconsistencies. However, given the team’s history, the process could still take time.
