Illinois forward Ty Rodgers will return to the Fighting Illini next season after redshirting in 2024-25. The rising redshirt junior confirmed his decision with a two-word social media post: “I’m back.” His announcement provides Illinois with an experienced presence ahead of another potential roster overhaul.
Rodgers sat out last season to focus on development but was a key contributor in his first two years with the program. As a sophomore, he started every game, averaging 6.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2 assists while shooting 52.7% from the field. His defensive versatility and playmaking helped lead Illinois to the Elite Eight—their deepest NCAA Tournament run in 19 years.
With Morez Johnson and Tre White departing, Rodgers’ return fills a critical need for size and physicality.
