The Buffalo Bills Foundation is partnering with No Kid Hungry this summer to provide grants to schools and community organizations in rural New York. In 2025, the Foundation will contribute $130,000 to support Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, addressing food insecurity in Western New York.
The grant will help schools and community organizations offer summer meal delivery and pick-up services, reaching more children in the region. Summer is often a time of increased hunger for kids, as families struggle to replace meals that are usually provided at school. Summer meal programs are designed to fill that gap, especially in rural areas, where flexible meal options are essential to meet families’ needs.
To participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and offer non-congregate meals in rural communities, schools and organizations must apply to the New York State Education Department (NYSED). New sponsors must apply by May 1, and returning sponsors by June 1. No Kid Hungry is providing grant assistance to help launch or improve summer meal programs. Interested parties should submit the No Kid Hungry 2025 Summer Grant Inquiry Form by April 4 to be considered for full application invitations by April 30.
In 2024, four Western New York counties offered non-congregate meals for the first time, with two counties significantly expanding the program. With support from the Buffalo Bills Foundation, No Kid Hungry’s outreach helped make this growth possible. Nearly 27% of all non-congregate summer meals served in New York during 2024 were provided by grantees funded by the Foundation.
