Indiana transfer guard Gabe Cupps has committed to Ohio State. Cupps, who missed most of the 2024-25 season due to a torn meniscus, became Ohio State’s first transfer commitment of the offseason. If granted a medical redshirt, he would have three years of eligibility remaining.
During his freshman year, Cupps played in 33 games for Indiana, averaging 2.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He only participated in four games during the 2024-25 season before his knee injury sidelined him for the rest of the year. Cupps, a Dayton, Ohio native, was named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball in 2022 and was ranked as the No. 94 overall prospect in the 2023 class by 247Sports Composite.
Despite Cupps’ potential, some critics question the decision to add him to Ohio State’s roster. While he was a standout in high school, his college performance has been limited, and concerns about the financial terms of his commitment have surfaced. Some argue that the Buckeyes may be taking a risk by relying on him, given that he has yet to prove himself at the college level.
