The Buffalo Bills are spending heavily on their defensive line in 2025, currently ranking second in the NFL in cash allocated to the position. To strengthen their front, the Bills signed free-agent defensive ends Joey Bosa and Michael Hoecht, along with defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi. They also extended Greg Rousseau’s contract, making him the team’s highest-paid defensive lineman with an annual value of $20 million, with nearly $20 million paid out this year. The team’s total expenditure on 10 defensive linemen amounts to $71.62 million, with only the Las Vegas Raiders spending more ($87.9 million).
This continued investment in the defensive line follows a trend established by general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott, both of whom prioritize a strong front. The Bills’ approach to salary cap management includes utilizing methods such as spreading out signing bonuses across multiple years to create additional cap space, as seen with the contracts of Bosa, Ogunjobi, and Hoecht.
Despite the significant spending, the defense’s performance in the playoffs, particularly against the Kansas City Chiefs, highlighted the need for further improvements. The Bills have been consistent in their efforts to improve the defensive line, and the team’s current cap ranking shows their ongoing commitment to that area.
