Matt Weiss, a former assistant coach for the Baltimore Ravens and the University of Michigan, pleaded not guilty on Monday to 24 charges related to cyber fraud. Weiss, who was released on a $10,000 bond, must surrender his passport and allow authorities to install monitoring software on his computer to track his internet activity.
Prosecutors allege that Weiss began his misconduct in 2015, claiming he gained unauthorized access to the personal accounts of numerous NCAA student-athletes, specifically targeting female athletes. He reportedly accessed private photos and videos, including intimate content, by exploiting the Keffer Development Services system, which stores medical data for student-athletes at around 100 schools. Weiss is accused of cracking the system’s password protections to gain unauthorized access.
Weiss faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for 14 charges, along with an additional two years on 10 other charges.
Over the course of his career, Weiss has worked with both Jim and John Harbaugh. His professional relationship with Jim began at Stanford from 2007 to 2008, then with John at the Ravens from 2009 to 2020, before returning to Michigan to work with Jim from 2021 to 2022.
