The Amari Cooper trade from 2019 did not go as planned for the Dallas Cowboys, and the midseason trade to the Buffalo Bills in 2024 also failed to meet expectations. Cooper, a five-time Pro Bowler, struggled to adjust to Joe Brady’s offense and dealt with an injury, making it hard for him to contribute effectively. Now a free agent, Cooper has generated some interest from Cowboys fans, but little else has emerged. With the Bills having signed Joshua Palmer, the possibility of Cooper returning to Buffalo seems slim.
However, USA Today writer Tom Viera still lists Cooper as the fourth-best free agent available. While his role in Buffalo’s offense never gained momentum, he remains a consistent veteran presence, which could be appealing to teams looking for experience. Despite this, his production with Buffalo last season was underwhelming. Cooper only managed 297 yards and two touchdowns from 20 receptions in eight regular-season games and had just six catches for 41 yards in three playoff games. His inconsistency was further evident in six games where he recorded 12 or fewer yards.
The idea of Cooper returning to Dallas seems unlikely, and a return to Buffalo doesn’t appear probable at this moment. However, in the unpredictable NFL, anything is possible.
