The Buffalo Bills and running back James Cook are a major focus this offseason. Cook is seeking a new contract to avoid playing out the final year of his rookie deal. However, despite expressing his desire for a new contract, Cook hasn’t received one yet, as the Bills have already extended several key players, including Josh Allen, Greg Rousseau, Khalil Shakir, and Terrel Bernard. Cook reportedly wants a deal worth around $15 million per year, but with the Bills’ salary cap space limited to just $2.2 million, a new contract seems unlikely.
In light of this, Ian Valentino’s latest mock draft for AtoZsports predicts that the Bills will select TreVeyon Henderson in the first round, potentially signaling the end of Cook’s time in Buffalo. Valentino notes that, while Cook is a talented back, the Bills might prefer to trade him and replace him with a rookie who would cost far less over the course of their first contract. Henderson, known for his excellent pass-blocking and explosive playmaking, could thrive in Buffalo’s offense. After an outstanding year at Ohio State, where he posted 1,116 yards and 10 touchdowns, Henderson is seen as one of the best pass-protecting backs in the draft, making him an attractive option for Buffalo’s offensive scheme.
Henderson’s versatility and shiftiness could make him a strong addition to the Bills’ backfield, where he could replace Cook, offering both youth and cost-effectiveness.
