Phillies Injury Updates: Matt Strahm on Track for Opening Day Roster
Matt Strahm (left shoulder impingement)
Status: On track for Opening Day
Strahm is set to pitch in the Grapefruit League finale against the Tampa Bay Rays on March 24. If all goes well, he will be part of the Opening Day roster. Despite a left shoulder injury limiting his spring performance, Strahm pitched in a minor league game on March 22, feeling good afterward. He also experimented with a new pitch, a kick changeup, and his fastball velocity was between 90-92 mph during the outing.
Ranger Suárez (back stiffness)
Status: Will begin season on 15-day injured list
Suárez will start the season on the injured list, missing two to three starts, with Taijuan Walker replacing him in the rotation. This marks the second time in three years that Suárez will open the season on the IL due to back issues. Phillies manager Rob Thomson stated that the team wants to ensure Suárez is fully healthy before rejoining the rotation.
Weston Wilson (left oblique strain)
Status: Will begin season on 10-day injured list, expected return in late April or early May
Wilson, a contender for the final bench spot, will begin the season on the injured list due to an oblique strain. He experienced discomfort while hitting in late February. He remains in Florida and will start a minor-league rehab assignment in early April. Currently, Wilson is progressing with running, defensive drills, and light batting practice.
