Damar Hamlin Chooses to Re-Sign with Bills After Strong Free Agency Interest
Damar Hamlin, a full-time starter in 2024, had the chance to secure a notable free-agent deal after his recovery from the cardiac arrest that ended his 2023 season. Despite this interest from other teams, the four-year veteran safety decided to return to the Buffalo Bills on a one-year contract.
Hamlin made a full recovery and played in 14 games during the 2024 season. He had an impressive year, recording the first two interceptions of his career and contributing 89 tackles as a key player in the Bills’ secondary. Despite generating interest from other teams, Hamlin expressed gratitude for the respect shown to his recovery and his performance on the field.
His new deal with the Bills, worth $2 million, is more than double his rookie contract’s average annual value but does not guarantee a starting role in 2025. Hamlin may see his playing time impacted by the development of second-round pick Cole Bishop, who is expected to take on a bigger role in the defense.
Hamlin, however, remains committed to Buffalo, calling it “home” and expressing his desire to spend his entire career with the team. He appreciates the opportunity to continue playing for the franchise that supported his recovery and development.
