President Donald Trump announced that the Kansas City Chiefs will visit the White House after the upcoming Super Bowl champions’ ceremony for the Philadelphia Eagles, set for April 28. The Chiefs’ visit is scheduled following the Eagles’ ceremony, where they will be honored for their victory over the Chiefs in the most recent Super Bowl, which took place in New Orleans last month.
Trump shared the news during an appearance on the “Outkick the Show” podcast with host Clay Travis on Saturday night. He expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the Chiefs, pointing out that this visit will make up for the 2020 missed opportunity. The Chiefs were unable to visit the White House after their Super Bowl victory due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to restrictions on public gatherings at the time.
The President did not specify a date for the Chiefs’ visit, leaving some details unclear. The team has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the visit. It is expected that the Chiefs will be celebrated for their performance during the 2023-2024 NFL season, particularly their impressive Super Bowl appearance, despite the loss to the Eagles.
In 2018, the Eagles were also invited to the White House after their Super Bowl victory, but the event was ultimately canceled by President Trump. At the time, Trump canceled the event after learning that several prominent Eagles players, including quarterback Carson Wentz and defensive end Chris Long, planned to skip the visit.
The Chiefs’ upcoming visit will be part of a continued tradition of honoring NFL champions at the White House, a tradition that has seen some interruptions in recent years due to political tensions. With this visit, Trump aims to fulfill a long-awaited promise to the Chiefs, after their 2020 victory, which was overshadowed by the pandemic.
