The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively working to solidify their quarterback situation. With Justin Fields now a member of the New York Jets on a two-year deal worth up to $40 million, and Russell Wilson still available, the Steelers have opted to bring back Mason Rudolph as a backup. However, the search for a starting quarterback continues, and they appear to be focusing on a major target.
Reports indicate that Pittsburgh is making a strong push to sign four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. On Friday, the team met with Rodgers for approximately six hours, making them one of the few teams seriously linked to the veteran quarterback alongside the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings.
Since Rodgers’ meeting with Pittsburgh, the Giants have signed Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal, while the Vikings are pursuing another former Pro Bowl quarterback. This leaves the Steelers as the frontrunners for Rodgers, aligning with reports from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that the team is “aggressively pursuing” the four-time All-Pro.
If no unexpected developments arise, Rodgers seems poised to join head coach Mike Tomlin’s long-established system, which has consistently kept the Steelers competitive and avoided losing seasons. His addition would bolster Pittsburgh’s chances of making a playoff push.
