Detroit Lions Re-Sign Cornerback Khalil Dorsey
The Detroit Lions have decided to bring back free-agent cornerback Khalil Dorsey for the 2025 season following a strong 2024 campaign. Known for his defensive skills and contributions on special teams, Dorsey, 26, is returning despite suffering a severe leg injury last season.
His injury occurred against the Buffalo Bills when he was clipped by teammate Ezekiel Turner on a passing route, resulting in a broken fibula and tibia in his right leg. Dorsey immediately recognized the severity of the injury and had to be calmed down after being placed in an ambulance. He was given an estimated recovery period of four to six months.
Special teams coordinator Dave Fipp praised Dorsey’s impact throughout the season, highlighting his performance in punt returns and defensive play. Head coach Dan Campbell also recognized Dorsey as one of the top gunners in the league.
Dorsey, who previously played for the Ravens and Giants, has appeared in 27 games for the Lions, recording three passes defensed and 25 tackles. His return adds to a Lions secondary that now includes Terrion Arnold, D.J. Reed, Rock Ya-Sin, Ennis Rakestraw, Amik Robertson, and Stantley Thomas-Oliver.
With Dorsey’s signing, Detroit’s roster now consists of 72 players under contract.
