FIA Gears Up to Tighten the Screws on Front and Rear Wing Tests!
The FIA is tightening the reins on wing flexibility for the 2025 Formula One season, introducing stricter tests to prevent teams from pushing the limits of front and rear wing designs.
In 2024, the governing body carried out additional checks on wing flexing, using video footage at several races, starting with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa.
While regulations permit some flexibility in aerodynamic parts, the FIA felt certain teams were exploiting the ‘flexi-wing’ concept too far.
After reviewing the situation, the FIA confirmed that no teams violated the technical rules regarding front wings following the Italian Grand Prix. Despite this, they have decided to step up their testing approach for the upcoming season.
According to Motorsport.com, stricter rear wing tests will be implemented from the season opener in Australia on March 16, while more rigorous front wing checks will begin after the Spanish Grand Prix on June 1. Teams will have some extra time to adjust their designs before the new tests take effect.
The FIA stated, “Following further analysis after the 2024 season, we are committed to ensuring that bodywork flexibility is no longer a point of contention for 2025.
To achieve this, we will increase the scope of rear wing tests and introduce additional front wing checks from the Spanish GP. This phased approach will allow teams to adapt without having to discard existing components, ensuring fair competition and exciting racing for all.”
