Noah Kahan, a Grammy-nominated singer from Vermont, is pushing his way into the sport of golf as a new investor in Boston Common Golf. Boston Common Golf is part of the TGL, a forward-thinking league co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
Kahan’s investment is big news, given his strong ties to New England, which adds a personal touch to his decision to support the team based in his home region. Noah Kahan has always been passionate about golf, with him frequently seen practicing his swing and playing at courses like TPC Sawgrass. His connection to the sport proves the authenticity of his investment. Discussing his involvement with Boston Common Golf, Kahan admitted, via Burlington Free Press: “Joining Boston Common Golf is so surreal, just a dream come true to be a part of a team that represents New England, the only place in the world where anything makes sense to me.”
Boston Common Golf is owned by Fenway Sports Group, which is well-known for its ownership of major sports franchises like the Boston Red Sox. The team counts other familiar faces among its stakeholders, including Niall Horan, another singer with a love for golf. This diverse ownership group is just one feature that sets Boston Common Golf apart within TGL. TGL, standing for TMRW Golf League, offers a new take on professional golf with a modern twist. Founders Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley have developed a league that manages matches indoors utilizing advanced simulation technology. These matches are held at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach, Florida. This unique setup aims to create a more engaging fan experience, with players joining in live broadcasts aired on ESPN and ESPN+.
The league kicked off its inaugural season in January earlier this year, with six teams, including Boston Common Golf, playing in weekly matches. Each team comprises three PGA Tour players in a competitive 18-hole match played on virtual courses. This combination of traditional and modern elements offers a fresh take on the sport, positioning TGL as a complement to traditional golf events and potentially drawing in younger audiences. Boston Common Golf boasts a strong team roster featuring players like Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley, and Adam Scott. With these golf icons on board, the team is well-placed to enjoy a strong initial season.
The league has also attracted investments from other high-profile figures across various sports disciplines. These include NBA stars Stephen Curry and Shaquille O’Neal, Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, and MLB players Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout. Outside of golf, Kahan has contributed to other initiatives such as the Busyhead Project, which focuses on mental health awareness.
