After a disappointing 27-win season in 2023-24, the Memphis Grizzlies have turned things around, surpassing expectations to become one of the top teams in the Western Conference. At the halfway point of the season, the Grizzlies stand at 26-15, holding third place in the conference.
This season, Memphis has showcased a more well-rounded approach to offense, with star forward Jaren Jackson Jr. leading the charge. He averages 22.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year is enjoying a career-best offensive season, playing a pivotal role in the Grizzlies’ success.
Jackson’s teammate Ja Morant has struggled this season, hindered by a series of injuries that have prevented him from hitting his stride. Morant has missed 18 games so far, with his most recent absence being for Friday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins provided an update on Ja Morant’s injury after the team ruled him out of Friday’s game due to soreness in his right foot.
“He’s been dealing with a foot sprain since the home game against Houston,” Jenkins explained. “In the last game against the Spurs, he got tangled up in a collision with a Spurs player, which aggravated the injury.”
Morant is averaging 21.4 points and 7.5 assists per game this season, his lowest scoring average since his sophomore year. After being limited to just nine games last season, the Grizzlies have been eager to have their franchise point guard back on the court, but injuries continue to sideline him.
