Dallas starts discussions for a new contract with Mike McCarthy.
The Dallas Cowboys and Mike McCarthy are positioning themselves for the future. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and McCarthy are both open to continuing their partnership, with negotiations for a new contract set to begin Friday, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero and sources familiar with the situation.
These talks come after several days of discussions regarding the 2024 season and the long-term outlook. McCarthy’s current contract ends on Tuesday, giving Dallas a limited window to negotiate exclusively before he becomes a free agent.
Additionally, many of the Cowboys’ assistant coaches have contracts that are also set to expire next week, adding urgency to the ongoing discussions between Jones and McCarthy.
The NFL regular season concluded a week ago, marking the start of playoff action and a host of other events. Among these are the annual awards and accolades.
While there’s still some time until NFL Honors, where MVP, Offensive/Defensive Player of the Year, and other honors will be presented, the Pro Bowl rosters were recently revealed (with five Dallas Cowboys players selected), and on Friday, the Associated Press All-Pro Teams were announced.
The Cowboys had just one First-Team All-Pro selection this year, and it came from the special teams unit in KaVontae Turpin.
Additionally, two Cowboys earned Second-Team All-Pro honors: CeeDee Lamb and Brandon Aubrey. All three of these players were also named to the Pro Bowl, which aligns with expectations. Dallas’ other two Pro Bowl selections were Micah Parsons and Tyler Smith. Although neither was named an All-Pro, Parsons did receive some votes, while Smith did not.
