The Ohio State football team has been active in the transfer portal, adding a few players while also losing some on both sides of the ball, as anticipated following the season’s conclusion. Most of the Buckeyes’ portal activity occurred shortly after their significant win against Tennessee.
Despite the portal moves, Ohio State’s primary focus has been on preparing for their Cotton Bowl matchup against Texas. A victory in that game would secure their spot in the National Championship, making it a higher priority than recruiting from the portal.
On Sunday, the Buckeyes experienced a notable transfer portal exchange. They lost linebacker Mitchell Melton but quickly added an All-Conference linebacker the same day. The new addition is the older brother of an incoming Buckeye freshman, further strengthening the team’s depth at the position.
Ohio State football team adds Ty Howard from the transfer portal
The Buckeyes have added Duquesne linebacker Ty Howard to their roster through the transfer portal. Howard, an All-Northeast Football Conference selection, brings his talent to Columbus, where he will join his younger brother, incoming four-star running back Bo Jackson.
As a junior, Howard has one year of eligibility remaining. While he provides additional depth at the linebacker position, his role for next season is uncertain. He is expected to be a rotational player, likely backing up Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese.
The addition of Ty Howard will allow the brothers to share the field at Ohio Stadium, a unique opportunity for the family. Ohio State now boasts three sets of brothers on its roster, including Lorenzo Styles, a backup defensive back and Sonny Styles’ brother, and the Armstrong brothers, who serve as backup offensive linemen.
Ohio State may not be finished with its activity in the transfer portal. The Buckeyes could still bring in a few more players before finalizing their roster for the upcoming season.
