Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has expressed a desire to leave the team following their failure to make the NFL playoffs.
Hill did not participate in the final quarter of the Dolphins’ 32-20 loss to the New York Jets in the last game of the regular season.
At 30 years old, Tyreek Hill missed the postseason for the first time in his career and told reporters, “For me, I just have to do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or wherever the case may be. I’m about to open up that door for myself… I’m out. It was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to just be out there.”
Hill still has two years left on the extension he signed with the Dolphins in 2022. The Georgia native had his worst season with Miami in 2024, finishing with 959 yards and six touchdowns.
Against the Jets, Tyreek Hill had only two receptions, marking his third game of the season with two or fewer catches. This underwhelming performance is a sharp contrast to his first two seasons with the Dolphins, where he surpassed 1,700 yards and 119 catches in both 2022 and 2023.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel stated after the game that Hill’s absence was not injury-related, adding that he would not comment on his player’s remarks until they had a chance to speak. “It would be unfair for me to match emotion with emotion,” McDaniel explained.
“Right after a game when your season ends, when you are fighting for it to extend and with the full belief that you have the ability for that to happen, I’m not going to make a rash judgment on something that is a little cloudy in the heat of the moment for multiple reasons.”
