The Steelers held a workout session with nine players ahead of Week 18. According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the players included quarterback Zach Annexstad, offensive linemen Gunner Britton, Matt Farniok, Garret Greenfield, Alec Lindstrom, and Cole Spencer, as well as wide receivers Ahmarean Brown, Lideatrick Griffin, and Tre’Shaun Harrison.
Annexstad, who went undrafted in 2024, spent the summer with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He previously played at Minnesota and Illinois State, where he finished his college career by completing 69.7% of his passes for 2,111 yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions. The 6’3″, 220-pound quarterback also added 149 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground in his final season.
Britton, a 6’6″, 312-pound offensive lineman, went undrafted out of Auburn in 2024 and spent the summer with the Buffalo Bills. He played multiple positions on the offensive line in college, including left tackle, right tackle, and left guard, earning second-team All-SEC honors at guard in 2023.
Farniok, selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, played at Nebraska. He has started games at right tackle, right guard, and center in college, and has appeared in 19 NFL games, playing for the Cowboys, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and Birmingham Stallions. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein described Farniok as versatile but noted that his pass protection needs improvement.
Greenfield, a 6’7″, 320-pound lineman, played college football at South Dakota State, where he started at both left and right tackle. After going undrafted in 2024, Greenfield signed with the Seattle Seahawks before spending time on the New York Giants’ practice squad. Zierlein noted that Greenfield’s athleticism and quickness are notable, though his footwork and consistency need improvement to make an NFL roster.
Lindstrom, a 6’3″, 296-pound center from Boston College, was undrafted in 2022 after earning All-ACC honors in 2020 and 2021. He has since played for the Cowboys, Memphis Showboats, Los Angeles Rams, and New York Jets. Zierlein described Lindstrom as gritty but lacking in size and athleticism for the NFL, though he has potential as a backup.
Spencer, who played college football at Western Kentucky and Texas Tech, was undrafted in 2024. The 6’4″, 300-pound lineman had 50 career starts, playing left tackle at Western Kentucky and left guard at Texas Tech. He signed with the Tennessee Titans as a UDFA.
Brown, a 5’9″, 167-pound receiver, was part of the Bills’ 2024 UDFA class and spent part of October on Buffalo’s practice squad. At South Carolina in 2023, he caught 26 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown. Zierlein described Brown as a “gadget guy” with explosive short-area quickness, but his small frame raises durability concerns. He also ran a 4.31-second 40-yard dash at his pro day.
Griffin, who played at Mississippi State before signing with the Las Vegas Raiders as a UDFA in 2024, has since spent time on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad. Zierlein noted Griffin’s athleticism and explosiveness, but questioned his consistency in route running and focus. At 5’10”, 181 pounds, he ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. In his final college season, Griffin caught 50 passes for 658 yards and four touchdowns.
Harrison, a 5’11”, 184-pound receiver, played at Florida State and Oregon State before going undrafted in 2023. After spending the season on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad, Zierlein highlighted Harrison’s speed and potential but noted his struggles with drops and route running. In his final season at Oregon State, Harrison recorded 52 catches for 604 yards and four touchdowns.
While it’s unlikely any of these nine players will suit up for the Steelers this season, their workouts provide Pittsburgh with potential candidates for future reserve or futures contracts.
