While the NFL Playoffs remain uncertain, Denver Broncos rookie QB Bo Nix’s chances of winning Offensive Rookie of the Year may have diminished in Week 16.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, the current favorite for the award, delivered a standout performance at the perfect moment. Like the Broncos, the Commanders have been searching for their franchise quarterback.
Daniels was exceptional in a thrilling shootout against the Philadelphia Eagles, leading his team to victory with five touchdown passes and 81 rushing yards. Despite two interceptions, he played with poise against one of the NFL’s toughest teams, securing the win for Washington.
Daniels has thrown for 22 touchdowns, just eight interceptions, and completed 69.7% of his passes, while also rushing for 737 yards and six touchdowns. His performance this season has been MVP-caliber, positioning him as the likely Offensive Rookie of the Year, especially given Washington’s struggles.
Bo Nix still has a chance, but with only two games left in the season, overtaking Daniels will be challenging. Nix has also thrown for 22 touchdowns but with 11 interceptions and a 64.3% completion rate. He has 352 rushing yards and four touchdowns, along with a memorable receiving touchdown, bringing his total to 27 touchdowns.
To surpass Daniels, Nix will need a signature performance, possibly against the Bengals. Meanwhile, Washington is nearing the playoffs with 10 wins, while the Broncos are still fighting to stay in the hunt.
Despite his fading chances for Offensive Rookie of the Year, Nix has had an impressive season, improving steadily after a rough start. He could surpass Russell Wilson’s 29 total touchdowns this week, and Broncos fans can take solace in knowing they have found their franchise quarterback for the future.
