FSU punter Alex Mastromanno Came just short of being selected as a unanimous All-American, placing second on The Sporting News All-American team. Dalvin Cook was the last (and fifteenth) player in FSU school history to be selected as an All-American.
He joined Shawn Powell in 2011 as FSU’s second unanimous All-American punter. Prior to Mastromanno, defensive end DeMarcus Walker and running back Dalvin Cook were the previous two FSU players to be named a consensus All-American at any position in 2016.
With an ACC record of 49.3 yards per punt, Melbourne, Australia’s Mastromanno dominated the nation. Along the way to become a Ray Guy Award finalist for the second straight season, he also led the country in 30 punts of at least 50 yards.
With an average of 45.6 net yards per punt, Mastromanno finished second in the country and held the career records for FSU in punts, punting average, and total punting yards. In addition, he had a long of 65, 18 fair catches, 17 punts downed inside the 20-yard line, and only two touchbacks.
Mastromanno broke Rohn Stark’s previous school records (244, 10,418) with 252 punts for 11,304 yards. With a career average of 44.9, Mastromanno surpassed Powell’s previous high of 44.2.
Mastromanno was a second-team All-American and the first finalist for the Ray Guy Award at FSU in 2023.
