The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly looking to acquire Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet in a trade. With Blake Snell seemingly heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the competition for the 26-year-old left-hander could intensify. The Phillies’ rotation, which includes Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola, could benefit from Crochet, as their only weak link is veteran Taijuan Walker, whose 2024 performance included a 7.10 ERA over 83 2/3 innings. Crochet, on the other hand, posted a 3.58 ERA and 209 strikeouts over 146 innings, earning his first All-Star selection.
With Snell likely off the table, other teams like the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, who are in need of a left-handed starter, may now pursue free-agent Max Fried. However, the competition for Crochet will likely grow as other left-handed pitchers find new teams.

In a proposed trade, the Phillies would acquire Crochet, while the White Sox would receive third baseman Alec Bohm, outfielder Justin Crawford, shortstop Starlyn Caba, and right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker. This deal would likely help the White Sox move some salary from Walker’s contract, and the other players involved are highly regarded, with Bohm having been an All-Star in 2024 and ranking among the league’s best prospects. While this offer may seem enticing, the White Sox’s general manager, Chris Getz, could wait for a better offer, similar to his handling of Dylan Cease’s trade last year.
As the need for left-handed starters increases, the Phillies may have to act quickly to land Crochet.
