The Dallas Cowboys are facing a running back dilemma, and NFL expert Kris Knox suggests that the solution could lie in Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty. In a recent Bleacher Report feature, Knox pointed out that the Cowboys made a mistake by not investing in a solid running back in the offseason, which contributed to an offensive imbalance. Knox believes the team could address this issue by drafting Jeanty in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jeanty is highly regarded for his electrifying ability to create plays with the ball in his hands. NFL scout Dame Parson described him as a star-caliber bell-cow running back, capable of handling a heavy workload. He excels in today’s run schemes, such as wide zone and pin-pull gap schemes, which would make him a perfect fit for the Cowboys’ offense.
Despite this, Knox acknowledges that adding Jeanty alone wouldn’t turn Dallas into a title contender, but pairing him with key players like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Jake Ferguson could make the Cowboys’ offense dynamic and exciting again.
In addition to Knox’s endorsement, Jeanty has also earned praise from other experts. In a November 25 mock draft by PFF, Jeanty was selected by the Cowboys, with the analysis noting his standout performances and high PFF rushing grades. USA Today’s Mark Giannotto also mentioned Jeanty as a Heisman Trophy candidate, underscoring his potential as one of the top playmakers in college football.

With Jeanty’s impressive season, including surpassing 2,000 rushing yards and helping Boise State stay in contention for a College Football Playoff spot, he appears to be a highly promising option for the Cowboys.
