Syracuse football has secured its second commitment for the Class of 2026.
Jaxson Gates, a 6’1″, 170-pound cornerback and ATH prospect from Damien High School in La Verne, California, committed to Syracuse following a visit this past weekend.
Rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals, Gates witnessed Syracuse’s victory over UConn at the JMA Dome and was present for the win over California in Berkeley on November 16.
“The biggest reason I decided to choose Cuse is because the program is on the rise,” Gates shared with 247 Sports. “Coach Fran has transformed the program in just one year, and since he’s the DB coach, I’m confident he can help me become the best player I can be.”
Gates, who boasts a 10.7-second time in the 100 meters, drew interest from schools like Cal, Utah, San Diego State, and UCLA. However, Syracuse was the only school to extend a scholarship offer this early in his recruitment.
During his junior season, Gates recorded 30 tackles, eight passes defensed, and one fumble recovery.
Syracuse’s other verbal commitment for the Class of 2026 is D’Antae Sheffey, a running back from Harrisburg High School in Pennsylvania.
