The Buffalo Bills had a relatively easy Sunday during their Week 12 bye. They entered the week ranked second in the AFC, just behind the Kansas City Chiefs, who were leading by half a game. Although the Chiefs won, giving them a full game lead, the Bills remained in second place after the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. A significant factor in the Bills’ strong season has been their quarterback, Josh Allen. Over 10 games, Allen has accumulated 2,859 total yards, 23 total touchdowns, and five interceptions. After a standout performance in Week 11 against Kansas City, Allen became the consensus MVP favorite. Following Sunday’s games, his status as the MVP frontrunner has remained unchanged. The closest competitor is Lamar Jackson, the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, who is scheduled to play against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football. Unless Jackson has an extraordinary game against the league’s best defense, Allen is likely to keep his lead in the MVP race.
If Allen wins the MVP, it will be the first time in his career. Despite being one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, he has only earned second-team All-Pro honors once and has been selected to two Pro Bowls in his seven-year career. After the bye week, the Bills face a challenging opponent in the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.
