The Buffalo Bills are heading into their bye week with momentum following a strong 30-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. They may have received more positive news after an injury scare involving quarterback Josh Allen.
Allen had his throwing hand evaluated by the team’s medical staff after a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Curtis Samuel on November 14, which caught the attention of the CBS broadcast team. Although Allen was able to return to the game and later sealed the win with a 26-yard touchdown run, there were concerns that the injury could linger.
Head coach Sean McDermott has reassured everyone, stating that nothing concerning was found after the game.
Josh Allen Healthy, Resting Over the Bye Week
McDermott assured reporters that head trainer Nate Breske evaluated Allen and found no cause for concern regarding the injury.
“I think we’re going to get him a new [hand] over the bye week here,” McDermott joked with reporters, according to the Democrat & Chronicle. “No, as far as I know, I have not heard any concern about it from Nate, our trainer, to this point so hopefully it remains that way. So that’s all I know right now.”
Allen now has two weeks to rest after leading the Bills to a victory and improving their record to 9-2. While there were no new injury concerns following the Chiefs game, Allen had previously injured his left (non-throwing) hand earlier this season, prompting him to wear a protective glove.
The Bills quarterback is no stranger to playing through injuries, having dealt with various bumps and bruises in recent seasons. In 2023, Allen suffered a shoulder injury early in the season, which caused him to adjust his throwing motion for the remainder of the year. In the offseason, he worked with a sports science company to address those inefficiencies and improve his performance.
The upcoming bye week could also be crucial for another Bills star, linebacker Matt Milano, as he looks to return from injury. Milano, who missed most of the 2023 season due to a fractured leg and was sidelined again in training camp with a torn pectoral, has now been activated off injured reserve and returned to practice.
The Bills could potentially have Milano back for their next game against the San Francisco 49ers, providing a significant boost to their defense as they head into a crucial matchup.
