The Baltimore Ravens have added former Pittsburgh Steelers slot cornerback Desmond King to their practice squad, according to the team. King was among a group of players who participated in tryouts hosted by Baltimore last week. He was released from the Houston Texans’ practice squad two weeks ago.
King has spent much of his recent career as the Texans’ starting slot cornerback. However, he lost the position to Myles Bryant during training camp, resulting in his release and later re-signing to the practice squad. So far this season, King has appeared in only one game for Houston.
A similar scenario unfolded last season when the Texans waived King after training camp. The Steelers claimed him off waivers but released him after five weeks, during which he played just one snap for the team.
Following his brief stint in Pittsburgh, King returned to Houston, where he reclaimed the starting slot cornerback role for most of the season, including their playoff win against the Cleveland Browns at home.
An Iowa native, King began his NFL career with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he established himself as a starter. Now 29, he looks to contribute to a Ravens secondary dealing with injuries, including the recent loss of slot cornerback Arthur Maulet to a calf strain.
