Vikings tight end Josh Oliver is dealing with an ankle injury that will need further assessment, according to head coach Kevin O’Connell following Sunday’s win over the Titans. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but more information is expected on Monday.
“He’ll just need to be evaluated,” O’Connell stated. “We’ll see what that looks like once we’re back in Minnesota and can take another look at his status.”
Oliver has been a key player for the Vikings this season, recording 3 catches for 34 yards against the Titans—his third consecutive game with at least three receptions. Additionally, he is considered one of the best run-blocking tight ends in the NFL. If Oliver is sidelined for any length of time, it would be a significant loss for Minnesota.
In other injury updates, Jordan Addison left Sunday’s game in the second half due to cramping and did not return. However, there are no concerns regarding his availability for next week’s matchup in Chicago. Before exiting, Addison had three catches for 61 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown. He also took a hard hit to the back during the game. In Addison’s absence, the Vikings increased playing time for players like Jalen Nailor—who missed a would-be 46-yard touchdown—and Brandon Powell.
“He was cramping,” O’Connell said about Addison. “We tried all the usual remedies for that situation, but he just couldn’t get to a point where he could return to the game. It would’ve been great to have him back to take advantage of a few opportunities that might’ve helped us seal the win, but I have complete confidence in Speedy (Nailor) to step in and make those plays when they come his way, just like he has throughout the season.”
Aside from Oliver and Addison, the Vikings emerged from Sunday’s game without any additional injuries.
