Illinois Women’s Basketball Cracks the AP Poll
The latest AP poll, released Monday morning, saw a familiar team making its way into the rankings. After a dominant win on Sunday night, Illinois secured the 23rd spot in this week’s poll.
This marks the first time the Illini have been ranked since the preseason of 2023, when they were also placed at No. 23 but quickly fell out of the rankings. After opening the season with two strong victories, the team earned enough votes to break into the top 25.
The Florida State team Illinois defeated last week fell out of the rankings, though the Seminoles still received votes.
With this ranking, Illinois becomes the seventh Big Ten team to appear in the week two AP poll, joining UCLA, USC, Maryland, Ohio State, and Nebraska. Oregon also made its way into the top 25.
The ranked Fighting Illini will look to improve to 3-0 when they take on Eastern Illinois on Thursday.
