The Buffalo Bills have signed wide receiver Jalen Virgil to a two-year contract, promoting him from the practice squad ahead of their Week 10 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Virgil originally joined the Bills’ practice squad on August 29, just before the 2024 NFL season began.
This season, Virgil has been elevated from the practice squad twice, in Weeks 8 and 9, for games against the Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins, respectively. His new deal guarantees him a spot on the active 53-man roster for the next three weeks.
When Virgil was signed earlier in the year, there was speculation that he could potentially compete for a role as a return specialist, based on pre-draft reports of his impressive speed. However, his 4.40-second 40-yard dash at his pro day was solid but not outstanding. For more details on his limited NFL experience, see our previous article on Virgil.

In addition to signing Virgil, the Bills also made a corresponding move, re-signing defensive tackle Zion Logue to their practice squad. This raises questions about the status of rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman, who suffered a wrist injury during last weekend’s game against the Dolphins. While no official updates have been provided, it’s possible that the Bills may be preparing for Coleman to miss multiple weeks.
