The Buffalo Bills did not make any trades on deadline day, but general manager Brandon Beane remained active, securing defensive tackles Jordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson within the past 24 hours. These signings are part of an effort to strengthen the defensive line ahead of key matchups against the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. Jefferson, who spent a season with Buffalo in 2020 and recorded three sacks, posted a career-high six sacks with the New York Jets in 2023. However, he struggled to make an impact with the Browns, who signed him in the offseason.
Phillips has had two prior stints with the Bills, playing from 2018-2019 and again from 2022-2023. Head coach Sean McDermott expressed satisfaction with their return, emphasizing that their current condition would need to be evaluated. “Jordan Phillips was released from his previous team, as was Q [Quinton Jefferson],” McDermott said. “We don’t know yet how this will unfold. Neither has seen much playing time with their former teams, so we need to check their fitness and readiness, and take things step by step.”
With starters DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver already in place, the additions of Phillips and Jefferson provide valuable depth during a crucial stretch of the season.
