Kentucky Democrats worry about further losing influence in Frankfort.

Democrats once held significant influence in Kentucky, but since Donald Trump’s election in 2016, they have been vastly outnumbered and largely powerless.

This summer has brought national attention to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, but for some of his fellow Democrats in Frankfort, it has been marked by controversy.

With Kentucky Democrats holding a record low number of seats, some supporters are calling for a change in strategy.

‘It’s a numbers game, like watching football or basketball; right now, Democrats are losing in terms of power,’ said Cassia Herron, a Louisville community organizer whose sister, Keturah Herron, serves as a state lawmaker. ‘And that won’t change unless we vote.’

Despite Beshear’s success as a Democrat in a predominantly Republican state, the overall influence of the Kentucky Democratic Party and its voters continues to decline.

‘Democrats need to figure out how to leverage the popularity and success we’ve seen in the governor’s office,’ Cassia told WHAS11 on Thursday.

In an interview with WHAS11, Beshear confirmed that Vice President Kamala Harris called him on Tuesday to inform him of her decision and seek his ‘help moving forward.

After an unprecedented two weeks of national attention, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is sharing more about the conditions he set from the start of the vetting process to potentially become Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate.

I was open to the process, but before agreeing, I wanted to have a conversation about the role to ensure I could still effectively support Kentuckians,’ Beshear told WHAS 11 in an interview on Wednesday. However, that conversation never happened, as Harris narrowed her choices to three candidates she met with in person in D.C. on Sunday, ultimately selecting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

When you’re involved in something like this, it’s important to ensure it’s the right fit for both the vice president and yourself,’ Beshear said. I was waiting for that conversation about the specific role because I promised Kentuckians I would only consider it if I believed it would help our people in a meaningful way. While I was still waiting for that discussion, let me just say, it’s crucial that Vice President Harris wins.
