Wests Tigers attempting to extend deals of star duo

The Wests Tigers are reportedly working to secure contract extensions for two key players they view as vital to the club’s future. As the team enjoys back-to-back victories over the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Manly Sea Eagles, they are riding high and heading into a bye this upcoming round.

Although the Tigers are focused on climbing off the bottom of the ladder for the first time in three years, they are also looking ahead as they continue rebuilding under CEO Shane Richardson and head coach Benji Marshall.

Central to this rebuild are five-eighth Lachlan Galvin and forward Fonua Pole, both of whom have shown great potential as future stars in the competition. According to *The Daily Telegraph*, the Tigers are prioritizing contract extensions for Pole and Galvin to ensure they remain with the club.

Pole’s contract expires at the end of the 2025 season, making him eligible to negotiate with other teams starting November 1. Galvin’s contract runs out the following season.

Pole has had a breakout year in 2024, featuring in nearly every match and becoming a fan favorite. The hard-hitting Victorian lock and front-rower has made 507 tackles, 43 tackle busts, 963.1 post-contact metres, and accumulated a total of 2383 running metres, positioning him for potential international appearances later this year.

Meanwhile, Galvin has been arguably the club’s best player this season, despite being ineligible for the Dally M Rookie of the Year award due to a suspension. In 2024, he has scored four tries, forced eight drop-outs, provided 14 try assists, and averaged 131 running metres per match in his 20 appearances.

Although rumors earlier in the season suggested that Galvin had requested an early release and was linked with possible moves to the Penrith Panthers or Sydney Roosters, he quickly put those rumors to rest.

The Wests Tigers are also set to welcome Jarome Luai, Jeral Skelton, and Sunia Turuva from the Bulldogs and Panthers next season. In addition, the club recently announced the signing of seven players—Tim Johannssen, Lachlan Broederlow, Kobie Wilson, Vaka Aho, Jaxson Rahme, Tristan Hope, and Eidan Ackland—as they continue to build depth in both the backs and forwards while fulfilling their promise of becoming a development-focused club.
