Metallica’s Self-Titled Masterpiece Returns To The Top 10

Metallica’s self-titled fifth album has been a consistent seller in America for over 30 years. Recently, streaming platforms have played a significant role in keeping the album on the charts, helping it to fluctuate in popularity but never fully fading from public view. Currently, the album is seeing a resurgence across multiple charts.

The band’s self-titled album has re-entered the top 10 on one Billboard chart, demonstrating its enduring power even decades after its release. Metallica climbs from No. 11 to No. 9 on the latest Top Hard Rock Albums chart.

The album also makes a return to the top 40 on another chart. It improves by just one spot on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, moving up to No. 40, which is a significant position to reclaim.

On the Billboard 200, Metallica is also climbing, though its performance isn’t as strong as on the more specialized charts. This week, the album rises from No. 171 to No. 158 on the list of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.S.

During the last tracking period, Luminate reports that Metallica sold another 9,000 equivalent album units across the country, a more than 4% increase from the previous frame’s 8,700 units.

Metallica has previously reached No. 1 on all three of the charts where it’s gaining ground this week. The album has spent an impressive amount of time on the Billboard 200, ranking as one of the longest-running entries for years. The fan-favorite has now logged 755 weeks on that chart and just reached 450 weeks on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart.

This week, the Grammy-winning band also has a second entry on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. *Ride the Lightning* is holding on, though it slips two spots to No. 24 after enjoying a recent boost in popularity.
